Models of development / A comparative study of economic growth in south Korea and Taiwan
J.L.Lawrence,Models, which originate in metaphor, exist on several levels ranging from all inclusive metaphysical models to narrowly circumscribed models of specific features of theories. Models at the more general levels form the determining logical context for models at lower levels. This categorical determinism stretches from metaphysical levels through scientific theories, to the manner in which we analyze, interpret, and make inferences from empirical evidence. Two radically different models which have had a pervasive effect upon the nature of psychology generally and developmental psychology specifically are the organismic and mechanistic world views.

New nations rising the fall of the soviets and the challenge of Independence
Nasia Diuk , Adrian Karatnycky,This book was to have been an updated paperback edition of our study of the rise nt national movements in the USSR, I he Hidden Nations, published by William Morrow, /n that book, we outlined the ethnic and national sources of the USSR's instability that foreshadowed the collapse of the Soviet state. Yet when we came to the task of updating the text, we realized that although we had pointed to the explosive force of rising nationalism in the USSR, the events that led to the tall of the Soviet empire required of us a fundamentally new book.

The economics of personnel management
Y.G.Odegov,Personnel economics is the application of economic and mathematical approaches to traditional topics in the study of human resource management. This includes topics such as compensation, turnover, and incentives that are inherently economic, as well as those that do not at first appear to be economic topics (such as norms, teamwork, worker empowerment, and peer relationships.) Using the tools from advances in game theory, information economics, econometrics, and other areas of economics, personnel economics has come a long way over the last few decades. It now produces a large share of the labor economics literature, has earned its own code in the Journal of Economic Literature classification system (M5), and has its own working group within the National Bureau of Economic Research. In this paper, we review how this literature has developed and discuss some avenues for fruitful future research.

Business Policy and Strategic Vanagement
R.Lawrence,As the famous management guru Peter Drucker beautifully put it, management has “no other choice” but to foresee the future, to try to shape it, and to balance short- and long-term goals. The future does not happen simply because people want it badly enough. It requires a decision – now. It takes a risk – now. It requires action – now. It requires resource allocation – now. It requires work – now.” 1 All of this is combined into what is known as Business Policy/Strategic Management/Corporate Strategy. The profound importance of strategic management is emphasized by Drucker in his observations. The main purpose of strategic planning is to “identify new and different businesses, technologies, and markets that the company should strive to create in the long run. But the work begins with the question: What is our current business? Indeed, it begins with the questions: Which of our current businesses should we abandon? Which should we reduce? Which ones should be promoted and new ones proposed.

Laird W. Mealiea, Gary P. Latham,This book reflects our experience wearing two professional hats. In both instances, the feedback on the useful-ness of the topics covered in this text has been overwhelmingly positive. In the case of students, the most telling responses come after they have had the opportunity to manage others. The following statement represents a typical comment from these individuals.
