This book developed as a result of a number of influences. First, it has come from our desire as teachers to demystify the complex field of cognitive psychology for both undergraduate education and psychology students. Since the 1940s there has been a prodigious growth in the number of terms being used in the professional literature, and a parallel construction and deconstruction of terms as researchers have built a comprehensive knowledge of cognitive concepts. We have attempted to deal with the major innovations and some of the subtleties in this book.
