This seventh edition, coming right on the heels of last year's sixth edition, rep- resents an innovative response to the market's unrelenting appetite for the freshest possible cases. While new developments in the concepts of strategic management are not sufficiently fast-paced to warrant our revising the text chapters annually, there's plenty of merit and justification for the practice of regularly refurbishing the set of assigned cases. Since many business schools offer the strategic management course every term, there's a tendency for the case collection in any one edition to "wear out" after a few terms-or sooner. Sometimes current events can make certain cases prematurely obsolete. The legitimate need for fresh cases, together with welcome and much-needed growth in the supply of first-rate cases being researched and written each year, has prompted us to shorten our case revision cycle and provide a second col- lection of 34 cases from which to choose.
