Offering a provocative look at the interaction between the theory of reading and the actual practice each individual brings to the process, NEGOTIATIONS is organized in two parts. The first six chapters focus on the different ways to read a text; the second contain over 60 multi-genre selections. Many of the readings are on cross-cultural themes and by multiethnic writers, suggesting that the different meanings we read from pieces are influenced by our heritage and background.
