The course Theoretical Phonetics of the English Language focuses on the study of the sound system of modern English and the theoretical foundations of phonetics. It examines the articulatory, acoustic, and auditory aspects of speech sounds, the phonological system of English, and suprasegmental features such as stress, rhythm, and intonation. The course also explores pronunciation norms, phonetic variation, and different types of English pronunciation. Special attention is given to the relationship between phonetics and phonology. The course develops students’ ability to analyze phonetic phenomena and provides a theoretical basis for practical spoken English and further linguistic studies.
