Skills for Managerial Success
Laird W. Mealiea, Gary P. Latham,This book reflects our experience wearing two professional hats. As profes-sors, we interact with students who want to develop skills that will enable them to become effective managers; as consultants, we educate people who want to improve their managerial skills. In both instances, the feedback on the useful-ness of the topics covered in this text has been overwhelmingly positive. In the case of students, the most telling responses come after they have had the opportunity to manage others. The following statement represents a typical comment from these individuals.

Management Quality and Competitiveness
John M. Ivancevich,The growing integration of the world economy is causing managers to pay closer attention to human resources, the quality of goods and services, and the need to adapt to change. In the past four decades most firms pursued the “economies of scale" approach to managing organizations. Big corporations, the Fortune 500s, were the preferred way of doing business. As the 1990s move crisply by, however, big has become synonymous with inefficient, inflexible, and costly.

International Business 96/97
Fred Maidment, hen the first edition of Annual Editions: International Business was being compiled a few years ago, the world was a very unstable place. Power in the then-Soviet Union was very much in question, and there was uncertainty everywhere. The day Boris Yeltsin jumped on a tank outside the Russian Parliament was the day that I was writing the introductory essay for the section that included articles on the Soviet Union. In fact, I was typing part of that essay when the news bulletin reporting Yeltsin's act came over the radio. Needless to say, I had to rewrite the essay. International business is where the economy of the world is heading. Virtually all countries and all organizations will be engaged in doing business with other organizations outside of their home country.

Economics 95/96
Don Cole,This twenty-fourth edition of Annual Editions: Economics has been largely zevised since previous editions and continues the tradition of providing the most up-to-date readings on contemporary economic issues. In view of the recent explosion of interest in the subject of economics, it is important that students are given opportunities to observe how economic science can help them to understand events in the real world. This anthology is designed to meet such a need. The volume is divided into five major units. Unit 1 introduces several general concepts involving economic analysis. At the heart of economics is the notion of "opportunity cost," the idea that, in choosing one economic alternative, we must forgo other choices. This unit demonstrates the usefulness of this principle.

China in the world economy
Nicholas L,In the fourteenth century, China was the lead country in terms of per capita income and maritime technology. Early in the Ming dynasty, it turned its back on the world economy. By the sixteenth century, Western Europe had overtaken China in per capita income, technology and scientific knowledge, but China’s bureaucratic elite was ethnocentric and indifferent to developments outside China. Between 1820 and 1950, per capita income fell from 90 per cent to 20 per cent of the world average due mainly to civil wars and the intrusions of foreign colonialists. 1949 brought a sharp change in the political regime which was a successful defender of China’s national integrity, but operated with minimal links to the world economy. After 1978, pragmatic reforms brought a massive increase in interaction with the world economy, and a great acceleration of economic growth. It seems highly likely that by 2030, China will be the world’s biggest economy

Economics 93/94
Don Cole,The test of a singularly versatile textbook comes with time, years of use and years of thorough, reliable coverage of the field. In 1976, when Business Research Methods was first published, it was a pioneer methodology text in business. The world has witnessed extraordinary change in two decades. Our field has changed too. Advances in technology have revolutionized the way information is processed and research is conducted. Secondary data searches, data collection, data entry and analysis, graphical visualization, reporting, and many related areas have been transformed. Amidst all these changes, our book has kept pace and remained a favorite. As we approach the third decade of writing Business Research Methods, we pledge to continue fulfilling students' learning needs, exceeding professors' instructional requirements, and becoming more relevant to practicing managers. We can accomplish this only by listening to you. Over 70 of our colleagues recently told us what was important to them in teaching research and how we could better serve them. We believe that our responsiveness to their feedback, to the indepth advice of our reviewers, and to students' expectations distinguishes the leaders of a textbook tradition from the imitators.

Macroeconomics
David C.Colander,o this book is not written in textbookese. It’s written in conversational English—I’m talking to the students. in the book I discuss modem interpretations of Keynesian and Classical economics, real business cycles, strategic pricing, the theory of the second best, rent- seeking, Pareto optimality, and challenges to Pareto optimality. The conversational style conveys the essence of these complex topics to students in a nontechnical fashion without tying the students’ brains up in technical tourniquets.

Post-communist monetary Problems: Lessons from the End of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
Rudiger Dornbusch,Taking stock of the "Post-communist monetary Problems:Lessons from" of the collapse of the communist regimes of Central and Eastern Europe, this volume explores how these societies have grappled with the serious human rights violations of past regimes. It focuses on the most important factors that have shaped the nature, speed, and sequence of transitional justice programs in the period spanning the revolutions that brought about the collapse of the communist dictatorships and the consolidation of new democratic regimes. Contributors explain why leaders made certain choices, discuss the challenges they faced, and explore the role of under-studied actors and grassroots strategies.
