Digital Image Processing using Matlab
Rafael C. Gonzalez, Richard E. Woods, Steven L. Eddins,This edition of Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB is a major revision of the book. As in the previous edition, the focus of the book is based on the fact that solutions to problems in the field of digital image processing generally require extensive experimental work involving software simulation and testing with large sets of sample images. Although algorithm development typically is based on theoretical underpinnings, the actual implementation of these algorithms almost always requires parameter estimation and, frequently, algorithm revision and comparison of candidate solutions. Thus, selection of a flexible, comprehensive, and well-documented software development environment is a key factor that has important implications in the cost, development time, and portability of image processing solutions.

Digital Image Processing third edition
Rafael C.Gonzalez va Richard E.Wood,is a valuable teaching aid, in the sense that it includes material that previously was covered in class. In particular, the review material on probability, matrices, vectors, and linear systems, was prepared using the same notation as in the book, and is focused on areas that are directly relevant to discussions in the text. This allows the instructor to assign the material as independent reading, and spend no more than one total lecture period reviewing those subjects. Another major feature is the set of solutions to problems marked with a star in the book. These solutions are quite detailed, and were prepared with the idea of using them as teaching support. The on-line availability of projects and digital images frees the instructor fromhaving to prepare experiments, data, and handouts for students. The fact that most of the images in the book are available for downloading further enhances the value of the web site as a teaching resource.

Interactive Multimedia in Education and Training
Sanjaya Mishra, Ramesh C. Sharma,There have been many experiments and innovations in the field of education and training regarding knowledge delivery. From face-to-face to virtual education, different technologies have played great roles at different times. In the last two decades, due to the advent of computer technologies, information delivery has got new meaning. Development, access, and transfer of text, sound, and video data have given a unique face to classrooms, libraries, and training and resource centers, in the form of interactive multimedia programs. Interactive multimedia as a subject/topic is still in its stage of infancy, which excites and attracts educational technologists. However, design and development of an interactive multimedia program is a complex task involving a team of experts, including content provider(s), multimedia developer(s), graphic designer(s), and, of course, the instructional designer(s), who most of the time plays the role of a project manager as well. This book is not about multimedia development, but the subject matter delves into the complex issue of planning, guiding, and designing multimedia from the instructional perspective. As such, we address pedagogical issues, applications, and effectiveness.

Understanding Telephone Electronics
Stephen J. Bigelow, Joseph J. Carr, Steve Winder,This book is in part about that network and the technology that has made it possible. But it is more about revolutionary changes that are taking place in the way telephone conversations and data are taken into the network, switched, and transmitted. Some of the technology still in everyday use in the telephone network dates from the decade of the invention of the telephone in the 1870s. However, even this old and traditional business is being forced by economics, regulation, and competition to make massive changes in the way it does business and in the equipment and techniques used to provide the telephone service.

Hacking Exposed 6 Network Security Secrets & Solutions
S. Mcclure, J. Scambray, G. Kurtz,When the first edition of Hacking Exposed hit the shelves ten years ago, security risk management was barely a baby, unable to walk, talk, or care for itself, much less define itself. We have come a long way since those early days when the term “risk” referred more to insurance actuarial tables than to security. Today, you can’t even start to do security without thinking about, considering, and incorporating risk into every security-related thing you do. Welcome to the evolution of security: risk.

The e-Government Imperative
THE E-GOVERNMENT IMPERATIVE,The rise of the information society has led to major changes in citizen expectations and organisational structures, cultures and working processes. Governments will have to follow suite and adopt information society tools and working practices if they are to remain responsive to citizen needs. The OECD defines “e-government” as “the use of information and communication technologies, and particularly the Internet, as a tool to achieve better government”. The impact of e-government at the broadest level is simply better government by enabling better policy outcomes, higher quality services, greater engagement with citizens and by improving other key outputs identified. Governments and public administrations will, and should, continue to be judged against these established criteria for success.

The Linux TCP-IP Stack Networking for Embedded Systems
Thomas F. Herbert,The Linux operating system was originally conceived and written by Linux Torvalds with the assistance of many people all over the world. It was intended to be an open source replacement for Unix and is compatible with Unix in almost every respect. The TCP/IP stack is implemented as part of the Linux kernel. It is also compatible with all the applicable Posix standards. Almost all programs written for Unix readily port to Linux without modification. Like the rest of the operating system, the TCP/IP stack was specifically designed for compatibility. In addition, it is completely interoperable with other TCP/IP implementations. It provides a socket interface that is compatible with Berkeley sockets. The code in Linux TCP/IP is very stable, and this is demonstrated by how few changes there are to the TCP/IP code in recent revisions.

Animasophy: Theoretical Writings on the Animated Film
Ulo Pikkov,As a film-maker, teacher, member of numerous festival juries, or merely a lover of animation, I have repeatedly caught myself wondering if a per-fect concept of the animated film exists at all, one that could be applied as a model or an example in making and evaluating animated films. I am fully aware that this is a slightly naive pursuit, but hopefully this book will take a small step towards creating a recipe for the perfect animated film and will assist other lovers, researchers and makers of animation in the search for their perfect recipes.

Artificial Intelligence in Education
Ulrich Hoppe, Felisa Verdejo, Judy Kay,In this paper I highlight a few important aspects of the roles that external representations can play in the meaning-making activities of two or more participants, and how the particular representation used may influence these activities. I will draw upon my own research for examples. One line of inquiry showed how the properties of representations used to support evidence-based inquiry can affect both discourse activities and student work. A second line of inquiry showed that the distinction between communication tools and other representations is blurred online, with the actual discourse between participants being accomplished by actions in all of the mutable representations. This research is unified by the concept of representational guidance: the constraints, visual properties, and conventions of use associated with representations can be used to guide learning activities.

Educational Multimedia A Handbook for Teacher-Developers
Usha V. Reddi, Sanjaya Mishra,Multimedia has always fascinated educationists because of its strengths to communicate difficult concepts in simple ways. With the availability of more and more sophisticated computers with multimedia capabilities, the potentialities to use multimedia have also grown tremendously. In the case of Open and Distance Education, which depends on self-learning materials, the use of multimedia enriches the teaching learning experiences by providing a multi-sensory perspective. While it has been acknowledged that multimedia can be useful in the teaching-learning scenario of both face-to-face and distance learning settings, educators tend to believe that development of multimedia requires knowledge of high-end programming. This is true only partially. Today, with the availability of software like Flash, Director, 3D Studio Max, etc, we can develop multimedia lessons with a little practice of the software. Therefore, you see many highly skilled multimedia designers in the market. But knowledge of the software alone is not enough to prepare a good educational multimedia. In order to be useful to the learner, a multimedia programme design needs to have a sound pedagogical base. This handbook intends to help teachers in understanding the basic concepts of multimedia and various issues involved in the development of educational multimedia.
