EMOTIONS IN AMERICAN HISTORY An International Assessment

This book grew out of a conference in Tutzing among German scholars whose work concentrates on the history of the United States. I wish to thank the Politische Akademie for hosting us on the shore of the beautiful Starnberg Lake and for sponsoring the conference.

Writing History!

Historians do not only know a lot about the past, what we conventionally call history, by writing about it they also make history. By interacting with other historians, both past and present, and in dialogue with the public of their own time they contribute knowledge and insights that help a society to be conscious of its relation to the past.

History of Nebraska

In accepting the challenge to revise the work that James C. Olson published in two editions in 1955 and 1967, in conjunction with Nebraska’s territorial and statehood centennials, respectively, I was not certain in the mid- 1990s that I could produce a third edition that met the needs of both students and state leaders grappling with many of the same issues of the past yet also many new challenges of the present and future.

Кадастровый список флоры Навоийской области содержит сведения о 1561 виде сосудистых растений из 534 родов и 90 семейств (как аборигенных, так и натурализовавшихся адвентивных). Для каждого вида растений приводятся данные о жизненной форме, экологии, распространении, хозяйственном значении, природоохранном статусе. Издание предназначено для специалистов в области охраны природы, ботаников, экологов, сотрудников заповедников и национальных парков, преподавателей и студентов биологических специальностей, гидов, туристов и всех интересующихся растительным миром Узбекистана.

The Asia- Pacific War ended more than seventy years ago. Yet, to this day, the war continues to haunt Japan’s relations with its two most impor tant neighbors, South Korea and China. Can the three countries ever resolve the dispute over how to commemorate the war, and if so, how? This question motivated me to write this book.
