Seine 1902 zum ersten Mal erschienene Anthologie >>>Deutsche Erzähler wurde zu Recht bewundert. Sie hat Maßstäbe gesetzt, und sie macht es allen, die ihm als Sammler von Erzählungen des gleichen Zeitraums folgen, schwer. Hat nicht er endgültig die richtigen Beispiele gewählt? Anmutig hat Hofmannsthal in der Einleitung seine Auswahl begründet.
