Evolution of Telecommunication Services

In the telecom world, services have usually been conceived with a specific mindset. This mindset has defined the traditional characteristics of these services; services distinguished by their linkage with the access network, tight control over service use (e.g., authentication, billing), lack of deep personalization capabilities (mass services only), and reliance on standardization to achieve end-to-end interoperability between all the actors of the value chain (e.g., operators, platform manufacturers, device manufactures). In addition, telecom operators - which we will also refer to as “Telcos” in the following - have been used to holding a brokering position because of their control of communication networks.

Civil-Military Cooperation and International Collaboration in Cyber Operations

he Institute for Leadership and Strategic Studies (ILSS), the College of Arts and Letters, and the UNG Press in partnership with the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute are pleased to announce a symposium on Civil-Military Cooperation and International Collaboration in Cyber Operations. The symposium will contribute to the scholarly discussion of this increasingly complex and important issue. U.S. or international scholars, graduate, and undergraduate students are invited to submit abstracts for papers or posters on topics related to the theme. The symposium review committee will select the most relevant and highest quality submissions for between nine and twelve scholars to present and discuss at the symposium. Undergraduate submissions will be considered for poster sessions. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to present as members of panels during the symposium. Extended papers from the selected abstracts will be published by the University of North Georgia Press in a peer-reviewed and edited symposium conference proceeding.

Principles of Macroeconomic Literacy

People try to make themselves better off by interacting with each other in the economy. By engaging in production and trade, individuals create value for themselves and for society at large. Problems often arise, which people solve as best they can. People are best able to solve their own problems because they know their abilities and their preferences for goods and services better than others know them. If people are forced by others, who do not know them as well, to take actions that are against their own judgment, production and trade will become less efficient, so value is destroyed and they will end up with fewer goods and services—food, medical care, shelter, clothing, transportation, information, and entertainment—than they would have had if they had been free to choose for themselves. They will live shorter, more miserable lives.
