Graphs and Hypergraphs
Graph theory has had an unusual development. Problems involving graphs first appeared in the mathematical folklore as puzzles (e.g. Königsberg bridge problem). Later, graphs appeared in electrical engineering (Kirchhofs Law), chemistry, psychology and economics before becoming a unified field of study. Today, graph theory is one of the most flourishing branches of modern algebra with wide applications to combinatorial problems and to classical algebraic problems (Group Theory, with Cayley, Ore, Frucht, Sabidussi, etc.; Category Theory, with Pultr, Hedrlln, etc.).

Theory of linear operators in hilbert space
The present volume comprises the first five chapters of the Russian text of seven chapters and two appendices. It is hoped that it will be a worthwhile addition to the few books on linear operators in English. Present plans call for bringing out the balance of the work in a second volume.

Statistical Decision Theory and Bayesian Analysis
Statistical decision theory and Bayesian analysis are related at a number of levels. First, they are both needed to solve real decision problems, each embodying a description of one of the key elements of a decision problem. At a deeper level, Bayesian analysis and decision theory provide unified outlooks towards statistics; they give a foundational framework for thinking about statistics and for evaluating proposed statistical methods.

Problems in Geometry
The textbook Geometry, published in French by CEDIC/Femand Nathan and in English by Springer-Verlag (scheduled for 1985) was very favorably received. Nevertheless, many readers found the text too concise and the exercises at the end of each chapter too difficult, and regretted the absence of any hints for the solution of the exercises.

Statistical mechanics
These notes contain material from lectures in two courses PHYS 303 and 455 at UBC. Sections 1-7 largely presents material given fall 1996. That year I went on to present the theory of Bose Einstein condensation and superfluidity following closely the discussion of a book that I co-authored with Michael Plischke at Simon Fraser University[1]. Since this material is in print I do not reproduce it here. Instead I have added a discussion of phase transitions from PHYS 455 some years earlier. Some of that material is also incorporated in the book mentioned above, but the emphasis is quite different. I have also added to section 2 some subsections on the Weibull distribution and on scale free distributions (’’Pareto tail”). This material was taught in PHYS 455 but not in 303.
