Hillforts and the Durotriges A geophysical survey of Iron Age Dorset

Of all the tribes identified by modern writers within the context of later Iron Age Britain, the Durotriges are arguably the most archaeologically and culturally distinct. Across an area that roughly equates with modern Dorset, together with significant areas of southern Wiltshire and south-eastern Somerset (Figure 1.01: Gale 2003, 125-26; Papworth 2011, 9), the pottery, coinage and burial practices of the Durotriges, combined with their apparent use of elaborately defended hillfort enclosures, clearly marks them out from their contemporary, pre Roman neighbouring social groups, especially the Atrebates and the Belgae, to the east, and the Dumnonii and Dobunni, to the west and north.

Tourism and Global Environmental Change Ecological, social, economic and political interrelationships

Tourism is largely dependent on natural resources. For example, the provision of fresh water for drinking, taking showers, swimming pools or the irrigation of hotel gardens seem self-evident preconditions for tourism all around the world. Beaches and coastlines, mountains, forests, lakes, oceans and the scenery provided by land- scapes containing these elements are central to the attraction potential of most destinations. Similarly, biodiversity is a tourist magnet in many regions, including a wide variety of bird and fish species, as well as charismatic mammals such as moose or deer, whales, dolphins or the ‘big five’ (leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, hippopotamus) in national parks in eastern and southern Africa.

Groundwater Contamination

This study is part of a series of studies in geophysics that have been undertaken for the Geophysics Research Forum by the Geophysics Study Committee. One purpose of each study is to provide assessments from the scientific community to aid policymakers in decisions on a societal problem that involve geophysics. An important part of such assessments is an evaluation of the adequacy of current geophysical knowledge and the appropriateness of current research programs as a source of information required for those decisions.

Le cours d'histoire de la langue française est divisé en deux parties. La première partie contient une introduction à la philologie romane; la seconde l'histoire même de la langue française. On étudiera dans la première partie 1) les faits historiques qui ont contribué à la formation des langues romanes; et les diverses théories, concernant le problème de la formation des langues romanes, 2) le développement de la langue latine populaire, qui est la source de toutes les langues romanes. La seconde partie est consacrée au développement de la langue française depuis son origine jusqu'à nos jours. La parenté des langues romanes. La parenté des langues s'explique par leur origine commune. Cette origine commune se manifeste par la communauté de leur structure grammaticale et du fonds héréditaire de leur lexique.
