Global Navigation Satellite Systems

The Global Positioning System (GPS) has revolutionized the measurement of position, velocity, and time. It has rapidly evolved into a worldwide utility with more than a billion receiver sets currently in use. Applications include emergency services, aircraft landing, farm tractor auto steering, and measurements of Earth tectonic motion, with new applications appearing every year. There are enormous benefits to humanity: improved safety of life, increased productivity, and widespread convenience. Recognizing this utility, Russia is rejuvenating its satellite navigation system, GLONASS. Other nations are now deploying new Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) of their own: the European Galileo system and the Chinese System called Compass or BeiDou. Regional satellite systems are also being deployed: Japan’s Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) and the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). All of humanity will benefit if these systems can operate as one super system, with users able to navigate using any four satellites.

Exercises in architecture

It can be difficult beginning to learn to do architecture. You will have a notion of what architecture is - the design of buildings - but when you start trying to do it the ground disappears from under you. Doing architecture is different, fundamentally different, from (probably) anything you have consciously done before. I say 'consciously' because one of the ways to get a grip on doing architecture is to acknowledge and awaken the architect that you already are: the architect that used to make dens under tables and houses up trees, that still sometimes huddles around a campfire or sits on the lip of a precipice. The following exercises will help by giving you some ground to stand on, literally as well as metaphorically.

Macroeconomics

The theory that I shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on the relevance of macroeconomics, controversies in macroeconomics, realism in macroeconomics, emerging issues in macroeconomics, and the future of macroeconomics. In this book I am particularly interested in exploring philosophical debates in economics, the open economy, economic growth in the long run, and fiscal and monetary policy. The book generates insights about the labor market, classical models of the aggregate economy, global exchange rate regimes, and the macroeconomic analysis of international economics. I am specifically interested in how previous research investigated economic decision makers, business cycle measurement, international monetary cooperation, and macroeconomic influences on the foreign exchange market.

В геологоразведочных партиях и на действующих рудниках по всему Советскому Союзу ежегодно производится опробование многих тысяч погонных метров керна руд и горных пород с признаками оруденения. Размеченный на интервалы длиной 1— 2 м керн раскалывается пополам вдоль оси на ручных или гидравлических керноколах. В геологической коллекции сохраняется половина керна в качестве основного документа о пройденной скважине. Из этой же половины отбираются образцы для микроскопического исследования.
