Engines of Empire
"An excellent start to a new series: fast-paced and engaging, with a properly epic setting and a cast of characters I look forward to seeing more of." –James Islington, author of The Shadow of What Was Lost"Epic fantasy fans listen up: This is the good stuff. Highly recommended." —Kirkus (starred review)From an unmissable voice in epic fantasy comes a sweeping tale of clashing guilds, magic-fueled machines, and revolution. The nation of Torwyn is run on the power of industry, and industry is run by the Guilds. Chief among them are the Hawkspurs, whose responsibility it is to keep the gears of the empire turning. That's exactly why matriarch Rosomon Hawkspur sends each of her heirs to the far reaches of the nation. Conall, the eldest son, is sent to the distant frontier to earn his stripes in the military. It is here that he faces a threat he could have never seen coming: the first rumblings of revolution.

This was not a good idea, especially considering what happened five months and two days ago. That was Bexley Farber’s primary thought as they pulled away from the cluster of figures waving good-bye from the porch of the Slash -C(+15others) Ranch’s main house.

A New World
"I fell in love with…Cahill. He's handsome, smart, strong, and had an Irish brogue to die for. Eleanor is a real woman, with real curves, a sense of humor and intelligence ... I was sad when I finished, because I wanted more."

Death on Beguiling Way
No yoga instructors of my acquaintance were hurt in the writing of this book …or used as models for characters. I had to seek out others’ experiences to research less positive experiences than I’ve had. Like all the characters in my books, these are not based on real people, but are the product of my fevered imagination. I confess, some of that imagining happens during yoga class.

The Last Brother
In The Last Brother by Nathacha Appanah, 1944 is coming to a close and nine-year-old Raj is unaware of the war devastating the rest of the world. He lives in Mauritius, a remote island in the Indian Ocean, where survival is a daily struggle for his family. When a brutal beating lands Raj in the hospital of the prison camp where his father is a guard, he meets a mysterious boy his own age. David is a refugee, one of a group of Jewish exiles whose harrowing journey took them from Nazi occupied Europe to Palestine, where they were refused entry and sent on to indefinite detainment in Mauritius.
