These topics, the speakers, and a highly participatory audience of almost 400 made the symposium an exciting and enjoyable event. A poster session highlighted the history of individual institutions and some of the major ocean science programs. An exhibit of photos of marine organisms provided a backdrop for a reception at the historic National Academy of Sciences building. NSF sponsored participation in the symposium by ocean science students nominated by their institutions. There was a genuine feeling of celebration among several generations of ocean scientists coming together to discuss the past and future of our field.

Je voudrais rappeler qu’il y a trente ans avait lieu l’inauguration de la première école de formation des cadres territoriaux, qui avait pour objet d’insister sur les spécificités, telles que les principes d’action et les valeurs de la fonction publique. Il y a un poids symbolique aujourd’hui, du fait que cette manifestation sur ce sujet précis se déroule à l’INSET d’Angers, qui est spécialisé dans les politiques sociales (solidarité, cohésion sociale, enfance). D’autre part, nous observons la réémergence de questionnements relatifs à la spécificité des valeurs du service public dans les organisations (notamment territoriales) et le management en général. L’enquête sur la transmission des valeurs de service public réalisée et publiée par le réseau des écoles de service public il y a moins de six mois s’inscrit également dans notre problématique de l’utilité sociale de notre travail. Elle s’interroge sur les valeurs et les priorités mobilisées par les fonctionnaires : intérêt général, qualité, efficacité et adaptabilité. Enfin, nous pouvons nous féliciter de la diversité des intervenants aujourd’hui (conseils généraux, CCAS, communes, DGCS etc.).

Dans les deux ou trois dernières décennies, l’islamologie, entendue comme étude des textes et pratiques de la religion musulmane avec les méthodes des sciences humaines et des sciences sociales et une perspective historique, a connu une désaffection de la part des milieux académiques et des autorités de tutelle. Les événements dramatiques qui ont touché la société française, en particulier depuis 2015, et un contexte international marqué par la confessionnalisation des conflits et l’émergence de groupes sectaires et violents, ont conduit à une prise de conscience des enjeux liés à une meilleure connaissance de l’islam en tant que religion. Ce diplôme contribue à la production et à la diffusion de discours savants fondés sur la critique scientifique pour analyser l’islam en tant que fait religieux et civilisationnel, et répondre à une demande sociale diversifiée. Il pérennise également les dynamiques collectives impulsées dans le champ de l’islamologie par le GIS Moyen-Orient et Mondes Musulmans. Il concourt à l’élaboration d’une réponse nationale cohérente aux besoins de formation en islamologie, et offre une alternative savante aux discours idéologiques de toutes natures qui prospèrent sur internet.

Appliquons, en effet, les règles précédentes. Le crime ne s'observe pas seulement dans la plupart des sociétés de telle ou telle espèce, mais dans toutes les sociétés de tous les types. Il n'en est pas où il n'existe une criminalité. Elle change de forme, les actes qui sont ainsi qualifiés ne sont pas partout les mêmes ; mais, partout et toujours, il y a eu des hommes qui se conduisaient de manière à attirer sur eux la répression pénale. Si, du moins, à mesure que les sociétés passent des types inférieurs aux plus élevés, le taux de la criminalité, c'est-à-dire le rapport entre le chiffre annuel des crimes et celui de la population, tendait à baisser, on pourrait croire que, tout en restant un phénomène normal, le crime, cependant, tend à perdre ce caractère.
