Linear Algebra
Linear algebra has in recent years become an essential part of the mathematical background required by mathematicians and mathematics teachers, engineers, computer scientists, physicists, economists, and statisticians, among others. This requirement reflects the importance and wide applications of the subject matter. This book is designed for use as a textbook for a formal course in linear algebra or as a supplement to all current standard texts. It aims to present an introduction to linear algebra which will be found helpful to all readers regardless of their fields of specification. More material has been included than can be covered in most first courses. This has been done to make the book more flexible, to provide a useful book of reference, and to stimulate further interest in the subject.

LINEAR ALGEBRA
This collection of thousands of solved problems covers almost every type of problem which may appear in any course in linear algebra. Moreover, our collection includes both computational problems and theoretical problems (which involve proofs). Each section begins with very elementary problems and their difficulty usually increases as the section progresses. Furthermore, the theoretical problems involving proofs normally appear after the computational problems, which can thus preview the theory. (Most students have move difficulty with proofs.) Normally, students will be assigned a textbook for their linear algebra course. The sequence of our chapters follows the customary order found in most textbooks (although there may be some discrepancies). However, whenever possible, our chapters and sections have been written so that their order can be changed without difficulty and without loss of continmity. The solution to each problem immediately follows the statement of the problem. However, you may wish to try to solve the problem yourself before reading the given solution. In fact, even after reading the solution, you should try to resolve the problem without consulting the text. Used thus, 3000 Solved Problems in Linear Algebra can serve as a supplement to any course in linear algebra, or even as an independent refresher course.

Linear Algebra
The fourth edition of Linear Algebra: A Modern Introduction preserves the approach and features that uses found to be strengths of the previous editions. However, I have streamlined the text somewhat, added numerous clarifications, and freshened up the exercises. I want students to see linear algebra as an exciting subject and to appreciate its tremendous usefulness. At the same time, I want to help them master the basic concepts and techniques of linear algebra that they will need in other courses, both in mathematics and in other disciplines. I also want students to appreciate the interplay of theoretical, applied, and numerical mathematics that pervades the subject. This book is designed for use in an introductory one or two-semester course sequence in linear algebra. First and foremost, it is intended for students, and I have tried my best to write the book so that students not only will find it readable but also will want to read it. As in the first three editions, I have taken into account the reality that students taking introductory linear algebra are likely to come from a variety of disciplines. In addition to mathematics majors, there are apt to be majors from engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology, environmental science, geography, economics, psychology, business, and education, as well as other students taking the course as an elective or to fulfill degree requirements. Accordingly, the book balances theory and applications, is written in a conversational style yet is fully rigorous, and combines a traditional presentation with concern for student-centered learning.

КАТАЛОГ ЛЕДНИКОВ СССР
Настоящий Каталог ледников является самостоятельным разделом справочника «Ресурсы поверхностных вод СССР» и содержит сведения о режиме и морфометрии ледников бассейна р. Пскем правой составляющей р. Чирчик (р. Сыр-Дарья, Аральское море). В Каталог включены схемы расположения ледников в бассейне р. Пскем и пять основных таблиц, которым предшествует краткая характеристика географического положения и режима ледников, в основу которой положены литературные источники и материалы полустационарных и экспедиционных исследований. Составление достаточно полной гляциологической характеристики рассматриваемого речного бассейна не представляется возможным по той причине, что режим ледников бассейна р. Пскем в настоящее время изучен еще мало. На схеме расположения ледников представ лены все ледники бассейна площадью более 0,1 км, помещенные в Каталоге. Нумерация ледников проведена против часовой стрелки, при этом принят принцип группировки ледников по отдельным мелким речным бассейнам. Нумерация ледников, принятая на схеме, сохраняется во всех последующих основных таблицах Каталога.

Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra
This book is meant to provide an introduction to vectors, matrices, and least squares methods, basic topics in applied linear algebra. Our goal is to give the beginning student, with little or no prior exposure to linear algebra, a good grounding in the basic ideas, as well as an appreciation for how they are used in many applications, including data fitting, machine learning and artificial intelligence, tomography, navigation, image processing, finance, and automatic control systems. The background required of the reader is familiarity with basic mathematical notation. We use calculus in just a few places, but it does not play a critical role and is not a strict prerequisite. Even though the book covers many topics that are traditionally taught as part of probability and statistics, such as fitting mathematical models to data, no knowledge of or background in probability and statistics is needed.

This particular moment made a profound impression on me, mainly because I remember how passionate our professor was while delivering his lecture. He almost seemed upset, like he was arguing with someone. Later in the semester, it became clear that he was arguing with Christians who believe in a particular doctrine of creation. Before one of his lectures, he opened class with a lengthy announcement, stating that he would appreciate it if students would stop sending him Christian hate mail. I thought his announcement was strange, since I never made the connection that his criticisms of ID might be construed attack against Christianity. Apparently other students, however, saw the connection clearly.

MTH 581-582 Introduction to Abstract Algebra
This book is intended for a one-year introductory course in abstract algebra with some topics of an advanced level. Its design is such that the book can also be used for a one-semester course. The book contains more material than normally would be taught in a one-year course. This should give the teacher flexibility with respect to the selection of the content and the level at which the book is to be used. We give a rigorous treatment of the fundamentals of abstract algebra with numerous examples to illustrate the concepts. It usually takes students some time to become comfortable with the seeming abstractness of modern algebra. Hence we begin at a leisurely pace paying great attention to the clarity of our proofs. The only real prerequisite for the course is the appropriate mathematical maturity of the students. Although the material found in calculus is independent of that of abstract algebra, a year of calculus is typically given as a prerequisite. Since many of the examples in algebra comes from matrices, we assume that the reader has some basic knowledge of matrix theory. The book should prepare the student for higher level mathematics courses and computer science courses. We have many problems of varying difficulty appearing after each section. We occasionally leave as an exercise the verification of a certain point in a proof. However, we do not rely on exercises to introduce concepts which will be needed later on in the text.
