Augusts Tentelis,Profesora Augusta Tenteļa pirmā sadarbība ar jauno Latvijas Universitāti (LU) aizsākās 1920. gadā decembrī, tolaik gan tā vēl bija Latvijas Augstskola, kad viņš atsaucās aicinājumam uzsākt darbu toreiz vēl Valodnieciski filozofiskā fakultātē. Fakultātes kolektīvā A. Tentelis iekļāvās pārliecinoši, par ko liecina fakts, ka 1920. gada 11. marta sēdē viņš tiek ievēlēts par docentu, bet tā paša gada novembrī viņš jau pretendē uz profesora amata vietu. Profesora amatā viņš tiek ievēlēts 1921. gada 5.oktobrī. Lekcijas profesors lasīja par Senās Romas vēsturi un viduslaiku vēsturi, kā arī par vēstures metodoloģiju. Viņš ir arī vairāk nekā 100 publikāciju autors. ”Tomēr visnozīmīgākais, kaut arī zināmā mērā netiešs A. Tenteļa devums Latvijas vēstures pētniecībā saistāms ar viņa kā Latvijas Universitātes docētāja ieguldījumu, sagatavojot jaunās paaudzes profesionālus vēsturniekus, kuriem viņš deva savu pieredzi un zināšanas.’’ eskatoties uz regulāru jaunākās literatūras un arhīva materiālu studēšanu lekciju lasīšanu un publikāciju sagatavošanu, doktora promocijas darbu viņš tā arī euzrakstīja. ”1936. gadā, tikai 16 gadus pēc darba uzsākšanas LU, A. Tentelim iešķīra LU vēstures zinātņu Goda doktora grādu.’’
